Selling meat on exorbitant rates: Magistrate seals two meat shops in Srinagar
Srinagar, Feb 12: Acting tough against the meat sellers for selling meat at exorbitant rates, authorities sealed two meat shops in Srinagar outskirts today.
Official sources told News Agency KNT that acting upon the complaints filed by consumers; Executive Magistrate 1st Class visited Lawaypora area of Srinagar outskirts.
The Executive Magistrate found the complaints true and took action on spot by sealing two meat shops.
An official said that despite the rate fixed by the government some meat sellers sell meat on exorbitant rates. Government has decided to act tough and book violators.
Pertinently, government has fixed Rs 480 for one kg meat while butchers are being seen selling the same for Rs 600.
Sources said that a delegation of mutton dealers along with traders have already met top officials from Food Department and in coming days final rate may be decided and published accordingly.
Authorities have requested the meat sellers, shopkeepers and traders not to indulge in overpricing, black marketing, or any violation of essential commodities otherwise strict action under law will be taken against them. (KNT)
