Scattered to widespread rains in J&K from May 12-14: MeT
Srinagar: Weatherman on Sunday forecast a spell of scattered to widespread rain and thunderstorm in Jammu and Kashmir from May 12-14.
An official of the meteorological department said that while mainly dry weather was expected from May 9-11, there is remote possibility of localised rain and thunderstorm at isolated pockets, mainly towards later afternoon or evening.
“Thereafter, expect another spell of scattered to widespread rain/thunderstorm during May 12-14th,” he said.
Regarding Ladakh, the official said mainly dry weather is expected during May 9-12th. However, he said, light rain or snow may occur at isolated places on higher reaches, “although chances are less.”
“Thereafter, light to moderate rain/snow is likely at scattered places of Leh and Kargil district during 13-14th,” he said.
The weatherman urged farmers and those intending travel on Srinagar-Leh, Jammu-Srinagar and Leh –Manali take the benefit of “favorable weather” during May 9-11. At the same time, he reiterated that travel may be undertaken subject to clearance from traffic police.
Meanwhile, the official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 12.8°C against 10.7°C on the previous night. The temperature was 2.1°C above normal for this time of the season in the summer capital of J&K, he said.
Qazigund recorded a low of 9.1°C which was below normal by 0.1°C in the gateway town of Kashmir, the official said.
Mercury settled at 6.3°C against normal of 5.50°C in Pahalgam, the famous tourist resort in South Kashmir, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 9.3°C against normal of 9.2°C, the official said.
Kupwara recorded a low of 10.3°C against 9.3°C normal for this time of the season in north Kashmir district, the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, recorded a low of 6.0°C against normal of 5.2°C for this time of the year while it has 0.4mm of dain in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours, the official said. (GNS)
