Registrar Cluster University, Jammu visits the Department of Linguistics, SHLA
Jammu, Febuary 03: Department of linguistics and literature, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu welcomed the Registrar Dr. Jatinder Khajuria for an interactive session with students and staff. The session was marked by insightful discussions, sociolinguistic exploration and meaningful engagement with the students. Dr. Monika Sharma Dean, School of Humanities and Liberal Arts and Dr. Reena Salaria HoD, Department of Linguistics & Literature and the faculty members were present on the occasion. Dr. Sharma and Dr. Salaria accompanied the registrar while showing around the department classrooms, language laboratory, and the departmental museum. The highlight of the visit was unveiling of the departmental museum, testament to the rich Linguistic and Cultural heritage of the local languages of the Jammu region. Nestled within the department, the museum stands as a testimony to local languages and its vibrant legacy offering visitors a glimpse into its history, literature and artistic expression.
Dr. Jatinder Khajuria interacted with the faculty and students of the department and attentively listened to the concerns and aspirations of the students reiterating the commitment of Cluster University to develop the department as centre of excellence and repository offering Linguistics to analyze and study local languages in relation to other disciplines. The bilingual local languages dictionary projects developed by the students were appreciated, encompasing the vision of the department for documentation, promotion and preservation of local languages. During interaction with the students Dr. Khajuria suggested significant measures that can be adopted to spread awareness of the discipline of Linguistics among the students of jammu region as a preferable career option. He delibrated on the possible ways in which the department can be strengthened by providing inclusive educational experience to the students of other disciplines in order to create interest for the subject by offering certificate and add on courses.
The interaction boosted the morale of the students and were enriched with the experiences shared by the registrar. Dr. Ranvijay Singh DSW, CLUJ, Prof. Ruth K. Masehi HOD English, Dr. Jeet Singh, Dr. Ravi Parihar, Dr. Farooq A. Mir, Ms. Shiwali, Ms. Ayushi, Dr. Indu Sharma, Dr. Sujata remained present during the session.
