Jammu, Oct 17: Veteran National Conference (NC) leader and seven-time MLA Abdul Rahim Rather is expected to be appointed as the new Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. Sources within the NC revealed that the party has chosen Rather for this important role due to his vast experience in the Legislature. He, along with Ali Mohammad Sagar, holds the distinction of being elected to the Legislative Assembly for the seventh consecutive time.
The National Conference leadership has also decided to extend an offer for the position of Deputy Speaker to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which emerged as the second-largest party in the Assembly. Despite being the opposition, the NC is ensuring a balanced representation by offering this key position to the BJP.
In addition to this, the NC is making notable appointments in other critical portfolios. Satish Sharma, an experienced politician, is expected to take on the role of Minister of Education, while Sakeena Itoo is likely to head the Health Ministry. These decisions are seen as part of NC’s efforts to maintain a strong governance structure in the region.
The expected appointments of Abdul Rahim Rather, Satish Sharma, and Sakeena Itoo are considered strategic moves by the NC to strengthen their position in the Assembly while fostering cooperation with other parties like the BJP.
