Rajnath chairs high- level security meet in Srinagar
‘Security arrangements for ongoing Amarnath Yatra, overall security situation, operations to deal with infiltration militant activities discussed’
Srinagar, Jul 05 (KNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Thursday reviewed security situation with top officials of Home Ministry, Intelligence agencies, Police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) heads here in Srinagar and discussed overall security scenario of the state especially Kashmir valley.
One of the top officials of Government told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the meeting was chaired by Union Home minister Rajnath Singh here in the afternoon, in which situation of Jammu and Kashmir came up for threadbare discussions. “The meeting was attended by the, National security advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary, heads of , Intelligence Bureau, BSF, CRPF, police and other top officers of MHA,” sources told KNS.
“During the meeting, the Home minister sought reports from the participants about the security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir. The senior officials representing different security agencies briefed the meeting about the required steps to be taken to maintain law and order and ensure the security Plan in the state,” sources added.
“Security arrangements for ongoing Amarnath Yatra, operations to deal with infiltration and militant activities, the current scenario in terms of recruitment of local educated youths into militant ranks figured prominently in the meeting, sources said, adding that Home Minister expressed satisfaction with alertness and bravery displayed by the security personnel in foiling the attacks by the militants.
“An advisory has been issued to all para-military forces to maintain extraordinary vigil on their security establishments in Jammu and Kashmir including those located close to the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), to guard against possible attack in view of the Intelligence inputs, which suggested that more such attacks can’t be ruled out,” sources said.
Sources said that it was observed during the meeting that the militants were under pressure from Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to carry out some spectacular attacks on security force establishments to avenge killings of a large number of militants including top commanders in the Kashmir valley.
According to sources, senior officers of Home Ministry, CAPFs and Intelligence agencies gave detailed briefing to the Union Home Minister on the internal security as well as the situation prevailing along the borders, where it has been witnessed ceasefire violations in the past one month.
One of the top officials of police told KNS that the Home minister was satisfied with the progress of ‘Operation All Out’ “launched against militants by security forces in Kashmir in which number of militants including top commanders have been killed on hinterland while series of infiltration attempts have been foiled on the borders”.
Sources said the situation prevailing along the borders also came up for review in the meeting.
Sources said that Home Minister also took a review of various developmental projects.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arrived in Srinagar Wednesday evening on a two-day visit to Jammu & Kashmir. Singh before returning to New Delhi was to pay obeisance at the Amarnath shrine but could not visit due to inclement weather.
It is to mention here that soon after landing in Srinagar on Wednesday; Rajnath joined by Doval met Governor NN Vohra and his Advisors-BB Vyas, K Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ganai and get a brief on security situation in Jammu and Kashmir especially the Valley.
This was the Home Minister’s first visit to the state following the collapse of PDP-BJP coalition government after BJP pulled out of coalition and Governor’s rule was imposed on June 20.
