Srinagar: Tariq Bhat

Senior IPS officer of the 1991 batch, Rashmi Ranjan Swain would be the new Director General of Police (DGP) and might take over the reins of the J&K Police force in the afternoon of October 31 from Dilbag Singh who would retire as the longest-serving Police chief of J&K the same day. With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, Swain’s appointment comes after a distinguished tenure as the intelligence chief of J&K, where he dismantled terrorist networks, curbed stone-pelting incidents, and effectively choked funding for terrorism.

Swain, a 1991 batch IPS officer, is credited with serving as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Srinagar and Jammu during the peak of terrorism from 2001 to 2004. His relentless pursuit of justice led to the formation of the State Investigation Agency (SIA) in 2021, a pivotal step in cracking down on terror-related activities, including narco-terrorism. Under his leadership, the SIA successfully solved the decades-old murder case of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Molvi Muhammad Farooq.

Known for his meticulous approach and unwavering integrity, Swain’s return to J&K has been hailed by officials and experts alike. He is set to take over from Dilbag Singh, the longest-serving Police chief of J&K, on October 31, marking a new chapter in the region’s law enforcement.

Swain’s tenure promises a continued commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
