Pulwama man sentenced to 4 years jail, fined Rs 10,000 in terror related case

PULWAMA (KIMS) — Police on Thursday said they secured conviction in a terror-related case registered under FIR No. 289/2020 at Police Station Pulwama in south Kashmir after the accused confessed his involvement before the court through video conferencing.

The case was registered on December 1, 2020 under Sections 16, 18, 19 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Section 307 of the IPC and Sections 7/27 of the Arms Act, police said.

The convicted accused has been identified as Zamir Sadiq Lone, son of Mohd Sadiq Lone, a resident of Tiken Batpora in Pulwama district. He was arrested on November 1, 2021. The case also involved three other accused terrorists who were earlier eliminated in separate security operations, police said.

The investigation was initially conducted by DySP Mohd Shafi and was later further investigated and challaned by DySP Showkat Rafiq. The challan was presented before the NIA Court on April 27, 2022, while charges were framed on June 1, 2022, police said.

Upon conclusion of the trial, the court sentenced the accused to four years and four months of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000.

Police said the conviction reflects Pulwama Police’s professional investigation, strong coordination with the prosecution and zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism, and reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and taking all terror-related cases to their logical conclusion. — (KIMS)
