Protest in Kashmir University against Mirwaiz summon, teacher’s custodial death
Srinagar: Kashmir University students on Tuesday staged a protest against the custodial death of a school teacher and summons issued to Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The protesting students were carrying banners which read “Stop harassment of our leaders, NIA summon to Mirwaiz is not acceptable.”
Raising slogans, the students marched inside the varsity premises to register their protest. The protesting students were demanding an impartial probe into the custodial death of school teacher.
Rizwan Pandit, 28, a resident of Awantipora in south Kashmir died during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, a police officer said. He was being detained at CARGO camp of Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
A police officer said they have requested for a magisterial probe into the death of Pandit.
