Power outages trigger protest in Baramulla, Sopore
Baramulla, Apr 25: A trade body in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district Monday took to the streets against the continued power crisis for the past two weeks in the district.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the protesters alleged that there were unscheduled power cuts during Sehri for the past two weeks.
“We have never seen such a power crisis in Kashmir before,” Abdul Aziz, one of the protesters, said, adding that the prolonged power cuts, mostly during sehri and iftar time, have infuriated people.
Suhail Ahmad, another protester, said that the Power department collects monthly bills without fail from consumers but fails to supply electricity.
He said that some areas witnessed complete outages during nights.
Meanwhile, residents of the Sopore area also hit the streets and staged a protest against the irregular power cuts in the area.
They said that the electricity crisis has affected xxemergency services as well.
The protestors raised slogans against the authorities and warned them that in case they failed to sort out the issue they would launch a forceful agitation against the Department—(KNO)
