Police violated Juvenile Justice Act by disclosing identity of 3-year-old child in Sopore attack: Amnesty India

Srinagar: Amnesty India on Wednesday termed the Kashmir Police responsible for violating the Article 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 for sharing a picture of a 3-year-old child whose grandfather was killed in a militant attack in Sopore.

In a tweet, Amnesty India said that; “by disclosing the identity of a minor witness of a crime, Kashmir Zone Police stands in violation of Article 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.”

In an another tweet, Amnesty said; ” It is also a breach of the “best interests of the child” principle as required to be the basis of any action by the authorities under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which India is a state party.”

Earlier, police released a picture of a cop carrying a three year old child, whose grandfather was killed in a shoot-out in Sopore. Police said the child was rescued by police and saved from being hit by bullets during a militant attack.
