Police Version Of Anantnag Shootout

Srinagar: Police on Saturday identified the militant killed in a brief shootout with police at Ranipora area of Achabal in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district as Bilal Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Ahad Bhat from Tatripora Yaripora, District Kulgam.

Police said that militants in the midnight hours attacked a police picket at Achabal in District Anantnag. However the attack was successfully repulsed by the alert policemen on duty at the picket.

“In the retaliatory action one militant was killed. The weapon of the militant was also recovered from the site of attack. The killed militant has been identified as Bilal Ahmad son of Abdul Ahad Bhat from Tatripora Yaripora of District Kulgam,” a police statement said.

Bilal according to police had joined LeT militant outfit three months before.

“His involvement was also established in a weapon snatching case earlier. He was involved in carrying out terror attacks on the security forces and civilian atrocities in the area,” police added.

In this incident one cop also sustained injuries and has been evacuated to the nearby hospital for medical attention, police said adding he is stated to be stable.

“From the spot two cars have been also seized by Police, which were apparently used by the terrorists,” police statement said.

Police have registered a case in this regard and investigation in the instant matter is in progress, police added.
