Police ‘Regrets’ Mention Of GNS In Its Statement

Srinagar, Dec 12: Police on Wednesday night “regretted” mention of GNS in its statement regarding wrong news about an injury to a civilian near the site of encounter in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

“Mention of GNS is regretted,” SSP Imtiyaz Hussain said. The SSP’s statement came in response to rebuttal carried by GNS, strongly refuting a statement by police. The GNS clarified that no picture whatsoever was circulated by it as regards injury to any civilian at encounter site in Sopore.

The GNS also requested police to thoroughly investigate before making any statement which has a tendency to discredit the reputation of GNS. “We at GNS try to make all efforts to maintain credibility and any attempt by any organization to discredit is highly detestable”.

The GNS had also requested police higher-ups to look into the matter and see action was taken against those who issued such an irresponsible statement.

Earlier, police issued a statement which reads: “All media friends are requested to refrain from spreading any unsubstantiated and unconfirmed news about Sopore. Some GNS person has spread that a civilian has got injured in Sopore which is totally baseless. The operation is still in the initial stage and there is nothing important to be shared as yet.” (GNS)
