Police not under my control, but casual laborers demands are genuine and humanitarian: Omar Abdullah

Jammu, Mar 11 : The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed intense debates and protests on Tuesday over the police crackdown on daily-wagers protesting for their regularization. The incident led to a walkout by BJP legislators.

After the Question Hour, BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa raised concerns regarding the police action against daily-wagers. In response, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed regret over the incident, assuring that he would address the concerns of the daily-wagers during the demand for grants in relevant departments.

“The police is neither under my control nor under yours (Randhawa). Instead of bringing it up here, you should raise it with those who control the police, just a few kilometers away from this House,” Omar said. He emphasized that the issue of daily-wagers is not just financial, but also a humanitarian concern. He added, “Lathis shouldn’t have been used against them, and I am confident this issue has already reached the police.
