Police arrests 05 drug peddlers, Contraband substances recovered
May 20: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested 05 drug peddlers in Kulgam & Budgam and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
In Kulgam, a police party headed by SHO PS Yaripora at a checkpoint established at Kanjikulla Crossing intercepted a vehicle (load carried auto) bearing registration No. JK03-5815 driven by Sameer Ahmad Sheikh son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh resident of Bangdar, Anantnag. During search, officers were able to recover 1.3kgs of Ganja like contraband substance from his possession.
In Budgam, a police party of police station Budgam at a checkpoint established at Nasrullapora intercepted a vehicle (Maruti-800) bearing registration No. JK01R-2679 with 03 persons onboard. During search 5.79 grams of Heroin like substance and 16 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Reyaz Ahmad Rather son of Mohd Shafi Rather, Khurshid Ahmad Dar @Shola son of Mohd Akbar Dar residents of Nasrullapora and Umar Farooq Baba son of Farooq Ahamd Baba resident of Hyderpora.
Similarly, a police party of outpost Hardupanzoo during routine patrolling near Checkmarg intercepted a person identified as Nisar Ahmad Bhat son of Ali Mohd Bhat resident of Saratpora Budgam. During search, 106 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession.
All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
