Srinagar, Aug 5: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh has allegedly resigned and departed the country following intense protests against her administration, which have resulted in the deaths of over 106 people since Sunday, according to a local private news channel.
There has been no official confirmation regarding her resignation or departure from Dhaka.
Reports said that Hasina’s resignation was triggered by widespread demonstrations against a contentious quota system, which allocated 30 percent of government jobs to the relatives of veterans from Bangladesh’s 1971 War of Independence.
The nation’s army chief is anticipated to address the country soon, various reports indicate.
In response to the unrest, the government had previously implemented a complete internet blackout. Protestors had called for a “Long March to Dhaka,” urging public participation.
