PM Modi To Take Oath on Saturday, Submits Resignation to President

New Delhi, June 5 (KNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to take the oath of office for his third term on Saturday, becoming the first leader since Jawaharlal Nehru to achieve this milestone. Following his resignation and that of his cabinet, Modi met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, who requested him to continue in his role until the swearing-in ceremony.

Despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) falling short of the 272-majority mark with 240 seats, they will form the government with the support of 53 seats won by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Modi secured his Lok Sabha seat in Varanasi, defeating Congress’ Ajay Rai by a margin of less than 1.5 lakh votes, marking his third consecutive win from this constituency.

Earlier, Modi chaired the final meeting of the current Union Cabinet, celebrating the NDA’s claim to form the government for a third time. Although the BJP aimed for 370 seats (400+ including NDA partners), the Congress-led INDIA bloc’s strong performance, securing 232 seats, significantly cut into their expected majority.

The BJP’s status as the single-largest party was maintained due to robust results in states like Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar, which offset losses in other regions. Notably, the BJP won its first-ever Lok Sabha seat in Kerala and increased its tally in Telangana, although it failed to win any seats in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing supporters at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, Modi expressed gratitude for the public’s trust and assured continued efforts to meet their aspirations. He also acknowledged the contributions of coalition allies, particularly Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party and Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (United), highlighting their significant roles in the alliance.

This historic election solidifies Modi’s leadership and the NDA’s continued influence in Indian politics.(KNS)
