Srinagar, April 27:

Former Chief Minister of erstwhile J&K State and chairman Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghalum Nabi Azad said that people accusing others of being proxies of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) have already baptized in BJP river.
He added that abusing communities has become a trend to lure voter.

“What faith you belong to that is your personal matter. However, when a leader goes to public, he must go as public representative” he said while replying to a query during Tv interview with ANN News.
He said that Congress had been a secular party and opposed casteism, adding, “Indra Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were also opposing casteism.”

“Now, the Congress leaders are supporting casteism in some states. I think casteism is more dangerous than communalism. Communalism divides communities but casteism divides each religion is multiple sub-divisions,” he said.
He said that since his career in politics, he has considered himself more social- reformer than the politicians.
“I contested first elections from Maharshtra where 95 percent population was Hindu. I won the polls. No one asked me my faith or caste. I became second term Member of Parliament from the same constituency. Now, one of the boys in Kashmir who has also served as Chief Minister is asking why I have chosen Anantnag-Rajouri seat to contest,” he said while replying to a query.

He added that Omar Abdullah was a minister under the BJP government and Mehbooba Mufti was the Chief Minister in PDP-BJP coalition government.
“Those who accuse others of being proxies have already baptized in BJP river,” he said.
