The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Kashmir has stated that allowing minor children to drive vehicles can lead to imprisonment for the parents or guardians.

Under the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 2019, if a minor is caught driving, the guardian or vehicle owner can face severe penalties, including up to three years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 This measure aims to deter parents from permitting underage driving, which poses significant risks to both the minors and the public.

It’s crucial for parents to understand the importance of adhering to these regulations to ensure the safety of their children and others on the road.

In Kashmir, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has emphasized the legal and safety repercussions for parents who allow their minor children to drive vehicles. According to the laws in place, minors driving without a valid license can lead to serious consequences, including legal actions against the parents or guardians.

Under the new Section 199 (A) of the Motor Vehicle Act, the owner of the vehicle will be responsible and can be imprisoned for three years or be fined Rs 25,000 if a minor drives the vehicle. However, an offence by a minor wouldn’t land the vehicle owner in jail

This could potentially result in the parents facing imprisonment or hefty fines. The authorities urge parents to prevent underage driving to ensure safety and compliance with traffic regulations.
