Budgam carries a long political legacy. The seat was once represented by Aga Syed Ali Safvi of the National Conference in 1962, followed by H S Mehdi in 1967.

 

Ali Mohammad Mir of the Congress won in 1972, while Syed Ghulam Hussain Gilani of the National Conference secured the seat in 1977. Each of these leaders shaped the constituency’s political identity over the decades.

 

 

 

Today’s result adds a new chapter to that history. With his record-setting victory, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi has redefined the political landscape of Budgam and given the PDP a strong boost in central Kashmir.
