PCB organises public hearing regarding Mining of Minor minerals at Shopian
SHOPIAN, MARCH 31: The Pollution Control Board (PCB) Shopian today conducted public hearing regarding mining of minor mineral (River Bed Mineral) at Brilliant Public High School, Dangherpora, Chitragam, Shopian to curb illegal extractions of minerals from the river beds.
Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, (ADC)Shopian, Dr. Sheikh Abdul Aziz, who was also the Chief Guest during the event said that the illegal extraction of Minerals including sand and bajri from river beds/nallahs across the district is banned and completely prohibited.
He said that who-so-ever is found involved in illegal extraction of minerals shall be brought to book and punished under law. He further said that FIRs shall also be lodged against the violators in this regard.
The ADC further said that directions have also been issued to Police and other concerned in controlling illegal extraction of minerals from nallahs. He stressed for inter-departmental coordination to curb this menace forever.
He also directed a comprehensive drive in the field and installation of sign boards at all vulnerable sites, where illegal extraction is done during night hours.
District Officer, PCB and other officers also spoke on the occasion and highlighted some preventive measures and steps to stop this illegal act and curb the menace forever.
Managing Director Pollution Control Board, District Officer, PCB, Shopian and other concerned officers and officials besides a large number of people were present on the occasion.
