Parents Demand Extension of Summer Vacation for Primary Students Amid Intense Heatwave
ANN News | July 5, 2025 | Srinagar
As temperatures continue to soar across Jammu and Kashmir, concerned parents are urging the Education Department to extend summer vacations, particularly for primary classes. With the ongoing heatwave showing no signs of relief, many believe that sending young children back to school under such extreme weather conditions could pose serious health risks.
According to the Meteorological Department, the current heatwave is likely to persist in the coming days, with daytime temperatures remaining several degrees above normal. This alarming forecast has led parents and guardians to appeal directly to the Education Minister for a much-needed extension of the school break.
“Primary school children are highly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Walking to school or even sitting in non-air-conditioned classrooms in this weather is dangerous,” said one concerned parent.
Social media platforms are also flooded with similar demands, with hashtags like #ExtendSummerVacation and #ProtectOurChildren gaining traction.
Parents are hopeful that the government will take a swift decision in the interest of students’ health and safety.
No official announcement has been made yet by the Education Department, but sources suggest that discussions are underway and a decision could be taken soon depending on the updated weather forecast.
