Pakistan confirms its first three cases of monkeypox..
Pakistan has confirmed its first three cases of monkeypox (Mpox) for 2024. All three cases were reported in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and the patients had recently returned from an Arab country.
These are the first confirmed Mpox cases in the country this year, following previous cases reported in the past two years. The identification of these cases comes shortly after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the virus a global health emergency of public concern.
In response, Pakistan has tightened surveillance at airports and other entry points. Authorities have also issued directives to establish isolation wards, stock antiviral medications, and ensure the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers.
The country is also conducting contact tracing to prevent further spread of the virus
