Orphan girl hangs self to death in Sopore village

Sopore: A 12-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in north Kashmir’s Sopore village on Friday evening.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said a 12-year-old girl (name withheld) a resident of Botingoo area of Sopore this evening hanged self at her residence. The family members rushed her to Sub District Hospital Sopore where she breathed her last.

Hospital sources told Kashmir Despatch that a minor girl was declared dead on arrival.

Confirming to Kashmir Despatch a police officer told a case has been registered and further investigation has been taken up. He said the reason for the suicide was not immediately known.

Meanwhile, sources informed this newspaper that the girl was an orphan her father lost his life year back while her mother married then another man and left her alone. Sources further said that depression might be the reason behind her extreme step. (KD)
