One leads by example and that is what the Srinagar Police Chief Sandeep Chaudhary did!

‘It was a gesture that showed the largesse of the heart of a gentleman officer in an era where your own most of the time let you down!

-‘ Perhaps the officer believes in the great age old philosophical adage that what we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal. This small little deed done by him will remain one of the talk of the town for ages in Kashmir as the officer stepped up to help a man who was in no way connected to him or related to him but still there was a massive connection and that was of human bondage’. He definitely deserves a salute for it and that to a massive one’!
-‘This is in honor of Sandeep ‘even greater than the ability to inspire others with hope is the power to motivate them to give as much to the lives of others as they would give to their own!’ The old man in nineties does not have much years left in terms of years for his stay on the earth but he surely would have been the carrying the heaviest burden for the remaining part of his life at that moment as the officer walked up to him give him something that he had kept with him for his last rites!’
-‘ The old man after receiving the closed packet while opening it must have while thanking the officer exclaimed, ‘the biggest sin in the world is not being able to love someone. ‘ Do not judge anybody by what they are, because life may have played unfair with them. You be fair. The one who loves would be the closest to God’. And Sandeep would have responded by saying, ‘I would’ve done the same grandpa had there been someone else instead of you today’!
-‘ When you have power and use it for destructive purposes: you don’t deserve it. The robbers and the looters who duped the old man did not deserve it. They did a shameful act for which they need to be overhauled which in fact they would be but the officer followed the principle which each one of us should in life aand that is, the purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.’!

Officer brought back the smile on the face of a man who had been left distressed by the muggers who had left him in a despairing state by decamping with Rupees One Lakh, the only money he had been left with after years and years of selling masala chana (brown horse grams and chickpeas/Kabuli Chana!’
-‘This is a heart rendering tale of magnanimity which teaches humanity that there is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.’ So here we go with it

I was just browsing the internet when I found this piece of information ‘Srinagar Police wins hearts of the people, Pays one Lakh to the ninety Yrs old channa seller’! The news touched my heart and I related this to my senior/mentor in Jammu and he immediately remarked that this was not information but a story that should be given an appropriate treatment. We discussed it at length and this is what we produced for the readers. This incidentally was beyond the call of duty but the officer Sandeep Chaudhary considered it very much part of his human duty which everyone one of us should!
Rupees one lakh were taken away from the pocket of a ninety-year Abdul Rehman who was robbed in the old city after being handed over a sound thrashing. The act itself was inhuman and the act of theft a disgrace for humanity! This even the clan of robbers would call a disgrace to their already disgraceful art of living! Obviously the Bohri Kadal Police had to come to know about it and so did the Srinagar city top man in Police. He was at the back of his mind that trapping the goons would take time but the immediate task was to provide relief to the man who perhaps for that moment was desolate not knowing what to do! For an old man whose earnings were meager and the source of income frugal, obviously one lakh was a huge amount of money! Sandeep immediately got up, walked straight to his vehicle, drove to the people and paid the old man from his own pocket! One can imagine the pleasure and the relief the old man would have got. who was all at sea for that moment of time would have got! I need not say anything else but leave it to the imagination of the readers to think about that! Mind you one thing the old man had collected this money for the last rites of his which again is an elaborate ceremony as a person bids adieu to the world and his own near and dear ones!
I will close the story with three statements because they fir perfectly on the great man Sandeep, when we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed, you have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you and a kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal. I Think he delivered a great message to the society in Kashmir!
