On JRL Call, JKLF Protests Jamaat Ban, NIA Raids

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Friday staged a protest in Srinagar on call of the joint resistance leadership (JRL) against the ban on Jama’at-e-Islami and the recent NIA raids on senior separatist leaders.

Scores of JKLF supporters and activists assembled at Maisuma soon after the Friday prayers and held a protest demonstration against the recent NIA raids on JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik and Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

The protesters while raising anti-India slogans condemned the banning of Jama’at by Ministry of Home Affairs.

“We condemn the NIA crackdown on our leadership,” said senior JKLF leader Noor Muhammad Kalwal. “Crackdown and subsequent banning of Jama’at is a direct interference in our religious affairs.”

The government of India Thursday banned Kashmir’s socio-religious organisation Jamaat-e-Islami, days after arresting scores of its members in a massive crackdown by the police.

The ban order, issued by the union home ministry this evening, said that the JeI has been “indulging in activities which are prejudicial to internal security and public order and (have) potential of disrupting the unity and integrity of the country”.
