Omar Abdullah Retains Ganderbal Assembly Seat, Resigns from Budgam Segment

ANN NEWS DESK

Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference (NC), has decided to resign from the Budgam constituency seat and retain the Ganderbal seat. Abdullah had emerged victorious in both constituencies, marking a major achievement for his party in the recently concluded elections.

Abdullah’s decision to keep Ganderbal, a constituency that has long been a political stronghold for his family, reflects his deep connection to the area and the strategic importance it holds within Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape. Ganderbal has been a base of power for the Abdullah family, with both Omar and his father, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, having represented the seat in previous elections.

While Budgam voters may feel a sense of disappointment at losing their newly elected representative, political analysts suggest that Abdullah’s resignation from Budgam was a calculated move to focus on strengthening his leadership in Ganderbal, where he has historically maintained a stronghold.

This move also opens up an opportunity for a fresh face in Budgam, with a by-election likely to be announced soon to fill the vacant seat.
