Omar Abdullah takes on ECI, says matter of shame that elections in J&K had to be announced by SC
Srinagar, Feb 25 : Former chief minister Omar Abdullah criticized Election Commission of India (ECI), saying it was a “matter of shame” that the Supreme Court had to issue a directive about elections in Jammu and Kashmir rather than the poll body.
Omar who was speaking at ABP Network’s ‘Ideas of India’ Summit 3.0 in Mumbai reiterated that Article 370 was not the root cause of uncertainty, saying what was being said in this context was incorrect. He said terrorist attacks are now being reported in those areas which were earlier terror-free, particularly in hilly parts of Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch.
While hitting hard to BJP led government over targeted killings in valley, Omar Abdullah said that more Kashmiri Pandits have been killed in targeted attacks during the tenure of the present government than in the past.
On much-awaited Assembly polls in J&K the former chief minister said that the top court directed the assembly elections should be held in Jammu and Kashmir by the end of September 2024, but what is the BJP and Government of India doing for the same. (KNS)
