Omar Abdullah Criticizes BJP for Nepotism, Highlights Family Connections in New Cabinet

Srinagar, Jun 11  : National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday took a sharp jab at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over allegations of nepotism in the newly formed cabinet of Modi Government 3.0. Through a social media post, Omar claimed the familial ties of several ministers in the new administration, mocking the BJP’s stance against nepotism.

In his post, Omar, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), quipped, “Nepotism has to be ended,” and listed the familial connections of various ministers appointed in the latest cabinet reshuffle. The highlighted ministers and their family ties include: Piyush Goyal: Son of Ved Prakash and Chandrakanta Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan: Son of Devendra Pradhan, Kinjarapu Mohan Naidu: Related to Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Jyotiraditya Scindia: Son of Madhavrao Scindia, Jitin Prasad: Son of Jitendra Prasad, Anupriya Patel: Daughter of Sonelal Patel, Kirtivardhan Singh: Son of Raj Anand Singh, Chirag Paswan: Son of Ram Vilas Paswan, Ramnath Thakur: Son of Karpoori Thakur, Kiren Rijiju: Son of Rinchin Kharu, Raja Rao Indrajit Singh: Son of Maharaja Rao Virendra Singh and HD Kumaraswamy: Son of HD Deve Gowda.

The issue of nepotism was a prominent topic during the recent Lok Sabha elections, with BJP leaders frequently criticizing the political dynasties of the Abdullahs, the Muftis, and the Gandhis. However, Omar’s post turns the tables, highlighting that the BJP itself has inducted several ministers with significant family ties into the new cabinet.

Pertinently, the critique comes at a time when the BJP has been vocal about breaking the dominance of familial politics in regions like Jammu and Kashmir. The party has often accused the Abdullah and Mufti families of perpetuating dynastic politics in the region—(KNO)
