Now, no one can do injustice to Jammu: Amit Shah
Jammu: Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that the Jammu and Kashmir government was ensuring equitable development of both regions of the Union territory. He noted a new era of development has started in the UT.
Shah arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on a three-day visit on Saturday for the first time after the removal of Article 370. He arrived with Home Secretary A.K. Bhalla, other senior officials of the home ministry, heads of Central armed police forces (CAPFs) and the intelligence agencies including the IB.
He said justice has been done to the Valmikis and West Pakistan refugees and the tribes like Paharis, Gujjar and Bakarwals by implementing the Forest Rights Protection Act in the UT.
Shah made the statement while addressing a gathering after inaugurating the new campus of IIT Jammu after flying to Jammu from Srinagar in the morning.
He said he has come to Jammu to tell the people that the time of injustice was over. “Now, no one can do injustice to Jammu,” he said.
Without naming the NC and PDP leaders, he took a dig at them and said they are asking what would the BJP give. “May I ask them what you have done for Jammu and Kashmir?” he said. “People want you to explain what you have done all these years.”
Shah will be flying back to Srinagar in the evening. On Monday, he will fly back to Delhi.
On Saturday, Shah grilled the heads of police, CRPF and the Army over the targeted killings of civilians by militants, including people from the minority communities. According to sources, he criticised the security and intelligence officials for failing to achieve peace in Kashmir, which he told was the main objective after the revocation of Article 370.
In Srinagar, he laid the foundation stones of two medical colleges at Udhampur and Handwara and flagged off the first international flight from Srinagar to Sharjah in the UAE.
Later, he also addressed the Youth Club in Srinagar and said after delimitation, there will be elections in the UT followed by the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Security in Jammu and Kashmir has been heightened in view of Shah’s visit. The police had seized hundreds of bikes from the people and mobile checkpoints had been set up across Srinagar and other places. (Agencies)
