Nothing wrong if we have an elected Mayor: Tanvir Pathan
Srinagar, Nov 20: Lashing out National Conference for seeking deferment of election to post of mayor of SMC till results of bye-elections are declared, Corporater from Zadibal and supporter of former Mayor Junaid Matoo, Tanvir Pathan Friday said that National Conference instead of mitigating the sufferings of people are adding to their woes.
“What’s wrong if a Mayor is elected for the city people. Instead of playing politics, NC is playing politics and wants people of Srinagar to suffer,” Pathan told news agency KNT.
Pertinently, National Conference contesting candidates in SMC elections on Friday filed a complaint challenging the issuance of notification for the conduct of elections to the post of Mayor by Secretary SMC.
Terming the SMC move a gross violation of the Model code of Conduct, party’s contesting candidates Nuzhat Ara and Ali Muhammad Magray today wrote to officials responsible for the adherence of the Model Code of Conduct, asking them to take cognizance of the issue.
Tanvir Pathan said that two candidates of National Conference are issuing statements on the behest of Salman Sagar.
“Srinagar is without Mayor that is affecting developmental works. People need Mayor and not politics. National Conference opposing the elections for the post of Mayor depicts their frustration,” Tanvir Pathan said. (KNT)
