No Terrorists could Enter within the 50-100 kms Range of srinagar. Says former Governor Satya Pal Malik

The former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir also warned the government that if it did not listen to the farmers, it will not be able to return to power.

Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday expressed concerns about the recent killings of civilians in terrorist attacks

in Jammu and Kashmir. Malik, who was the Governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, said that it was painful to see poor people being targeted in Kashmir.

“When I was the Governor, terrorists were afraid of coming within 50-100 km of Srinagar. Now, they are killing people inside the city,” he said.

Malik was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019, and it was during his tenure that the constitutional decision to abrogate Article 370, which gave special status to J&K, was taken on August 5, 2019.

Malik also attacked the Centre over the ongoing protest by farmers over the three controversial farm laws. He said that the central government was behaving in a high-handed manner in dealing with the protesters.

The former MP said that he was with the protesters and has even fought with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and others over farmers’ issues.

He warned that if the government did not listen to the farmers, it will not be able to return to power.

“Sometimes governments become high and mighty and stop listening. However, when the time changes, they are forced to come down from their high horses and listen. The same will happen with this government as well,” he said.
Malik said that he was ready to mediate between farmers and the government but the Centre must make a move. Malik said that if the government would ensure minimum support price (MSP), he will be able to persuade farmers over three farm laws.

Malik was transferred to Goa soon after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir in two Union territories. Last August, he was again shifted, this time to Meghalaya, amid differences with the BJP-led government in Goa.

Malik, who comes from the western part of Uttar Pradesh, has been quite vocal about the farmers’ issues since the beginning of their protest last year. (PTI)
