NIA crackdown continues on Jamaat-e-Islami

Srinagar, Aug 09 : In a major crackdown in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on day second raided many locations with assistance of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district in connection with a funding case number (RC-03/2021/NIA/DLI) registered against banned organization Jamaat-e-Islami.

Reliable sources told news agency  that the residence of Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, a resident of Konan Bandipora was raided and during search two religious books, 01 mobile phone and 01 calendar was taken by the NIA team.

They said that residence of Ahtishamul Haq Bhat son of Late Ghulam Nabi, a resident of Chattibanday Bandipora, who was arrested on 19-08-2020 and was lodged in judicial custody, was lodged under PSA in district Jail Kupwara from 06-03-2021 was also searched by the sleuths of NIA. During search of the house of detainee sources confirmed to Kashmir Dot Com that 01 laptop, 02 mobile phones, 30 No’s of religious books/documents were seized by NIA team.

Similarly the residence of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Akbar, a resident of Aloosa Bandipora was also searched by the sleuths of NIA. During search 01 mobile phone, bank documents were seized by the NIA officials. During the raid Manzoor was detained by the NIA officials at Police Post Aloosa and after questioning was released.

In Bankote area of Bandipora NIA searched the residence of Zahoor Ahmad Malik son of Abdul Gani Malik (Chairman International Public School Braripora Bonakote). During the search 02 laptops and 05 mobile phones were seized by the team of NIA.

Residence of Ghulam Mohammad Wani son of Abdul Ahad, a resident of Arin was also searched. During raid, as per sources some receipts of JeI (old receipts) were seized by the NIA team.

As per report Wani was not present at his home during the raid. However his son identified as Ishfaq Ahmad was detained by the NIA team and after questioning at Police Post Sumlar was later released.

Officials told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com that raids are being conducted to check resurgence of Jamaat-e-Islami activities in Jammu and Kashmir despite the ban on organization by the Ministry of home Affairs (MHA).

They said the case was registered by the probing agency NIA on 5 February 2021 in pursuance to order from Ministry of Home Affairs relating to “separatist and secessionist activities of JeI, an unlawful association under the UA (P) Act, even after its proscription on 28.02.2019.”

The Centre had banned the Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 for five years under anti-terror law on grounds that it was “in close touch” with militant outfits and is expected to “escalate secessionist movement” in the state. (KDC)
