NIA Court Releases Shahid-Ul-Islam On Custody Parole

Srinagar: A National Investigation Agency court Monday granted custody parole of a week to the Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman, advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, a source told Greater Kashmir.

“Shahid would be allowed to remain with his family from 10 am to 5 pm and he will have to stay in a nearby police station during the night,” the source said, adding that nobody other than the family members would be allowed to meet Shahid during the custody parole period.

Shahid was arrested in an alleged militant funding case by the NIA in July 2017 and is languishing at New Delhi’s Tihar jail since.

Nuzhat Shah, wife of the jailed Hurriyat spokesman, had survived a heart stroke on January 12 this year following which she was rushed to a hospital.

Shahid’s ailing wife and his two daughters had been demanding his release on humanitarian grounds.

Former chief minister and the president of Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti had tweeted on January 20: “Have spoken with Home Minister requesting his (Shahid-ul-Islam’s) early release on humanitarian grounds as his wife has suffered a brain hemorrhage”.
