GOC 19th Div, Major General G.P Singh, briefs DGP about situation on LoC, hinterland

Jammu, March 17: On the second day of his visit to Kashmir Valley the Director General of Police Shri Dilbag Singh accompanied by IGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar today visited Kupwara, Handwara and Baramulla, frontier districts of North Kashmir and took a review of security scenario and preparedness on law and order situation in border area and in the hinterland of these districts.

The DGP first visited Kupwara where he was received by SSP Kupwara Sh. Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar and other officers. DC Kupwara Shri Anshul Garg, SSP Kupwara and other jurisdictional officers apprised the DGP about the overall security situation and measures taken to maintain peace and order in the district. In the afternoon, the DGP visited 15RR Headquarters at Vilgam Handwara where he was received by officiating commandant Lt. CoL Amit Rawat and SP Handwara Shri G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy who briefed the DGP regarding the security scenario in Handwara.

The DGP later visited 19th Div. Baramulla where he interacted with the officers of Police, Army, CRPF and BSF.  GOC 19th Div, Major General G.P Singh, briefed the DGP J&K about security situation on LoC in 19th Div Sector along the border and hinterland.  On the occasion SSP Baramulla, Shri Abdul Qayoom , Commandant 40th BN BSF Shri V.K Kasana, CO CRPF 53rd BN Shri Vijay Kumar, and Addl. SP Baramulla Shri Mukesh Kakkar also apprised the DGP about the present security scenario of the district.

The DGP while addressing these officers’ meetings and breifings complimented the forces for their good work and said that Jammu and Kashmir Police and all other security forces have maintained high morale during tough times because of which normalcy has returned. “Although the terrorist activities have been brought down, forces have to remain on constant vigil and alert so that any evil attempt to disrupt peace is effectively foiled. He said that brave Jawans and officers of Police and other forces working in J&K as a team have faced come up to the expectations of the people. He said that work of Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security forces is being appreciated at highest levels of Government and we need to continue our peace efforts with even more dedication to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We need to consolidate normalcy and peace by engaging people particularly youth for achieving the goals of prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.

Hailing the better coordination among all forces, the DGP said, “Close liaison should be maintained at every level to foil any attempt by the trouble-makers looking to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere.” The DGP exhorted upon officers that with the coordination of other units short range patrolling be explored to keep an eye on every suspected movement. Calling for conducting joint training/mock drills for all forces at different levels, the DGP said that it will help in enhancing coordination and synergy among personnel of different units. The DGP took stock of preparedness on law and order front during the interactions.

The DGP said that safety and security of people is our prime concern and directed that security of venerable places and persons be beefed up as per requirement. He said that Pakistan is continuously looking to foment trouble in J&K by pushing terrorists here, but like the past their all evil attempts will be foiled with fortitude.

Shri Singh stressed for community policing and said that police-public meetings at local levels should be conducted to redress the genuine grievances of the people in their jurisdictions. He stressed on adoption of best practices to enhance capabilities of professional policing and better man management for effective delivery of justice.

The DGP visited Police Station Vilgam where SHO, Inspector Suleiman briefed the DGP about functioning of police in its jurisdiction including law and order situation. The DGP directed the officers to take effective measures to check drug tracking and stressed for intensified drive. He directed the officers to book the elements involved in the menace under PSA.  The DGP interacted with the officer and Jawans of Police, ITBP, SSB and CRPF, besides took stock of the logistics and available facilities for the personnel. He directed for organizing Bada Khana and interactions among different units on regular basis. He assured that all the necessary facilities for the Jawans and officers will be provided on priority. The Sarpanchs and BDC members of the area also met the DGP J&K.
