NCP vows action over alleged vote rigging
Monira Sharmin, secretary of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) Election Management Committee, has alleged multiple irregularities in the ongoing national election, warning that any attempt to manipulate the results would not be accepted.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday at the party’s temporary central office in Banglamotor in the capital, Sharmin said the voting process was generally smooth until noon, but complaints of misconduct began surfacing afterward, with no action taken by authorities.
According to her, polling agents from 11 parties were removed from several centres and candidates faced attacks in multiple locations. She cited specific
incidents, including voters using NCP “Dhaner Sheesh” ID cards at polling centers in Dhaka-18, harassment of women voters in Khilkhet, multiple polling agents of BNP candidates present in the same room in Comilla, attacks on the wife and brother of NCP candidate Hannan Masud in Noakhali-6.
Sharmin also alleged that voters were obstructed from reaching polling stations in Hatiya, Noakhali, and journalists were attacked.
In Borhanuddin, Bhola, an incident of crude bomb explosion occurred at a polling center. She added that there were reports of advance voting in several centres in Dhaka-15 and Dhaka-18, and a ballot book was snatched in Sherpur.
Despite filing both verbal and written complaints regarding each of these incidents, Sharmin said the administration had yet to take any measures.
