National Sports Day Celebration: Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Tournament Finals Showcases Youth Talent

Srinagar, August 29 : On the occasion of National Sports Day, the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Tournament reached its pinnacle as the final match between Srinagar and Baramulla took place at the Synthetic Turf Polo View in Srinagar. The tournament, organized by Chinar Corps and 31 Sub Area, has been a resounding success in promoting youth engagement and fostering a renewed enthusiasm for the sport of hockey.
Speaking to ANN News, Major General PBS Lamba, GOC 31 Sub Area, highlighted the significance of the hockey tournament in celebrating National Sports Day. “We have organized this hockey tournament here because we want to uplift the youth in this region,” said Major General Lamba. “Hockey, once lagging, has now found renewed vigor through this competition.”
The tournament witnessed active participation from ten district teams, all vying for the championship title. The final match between Baramulla and Srinagar was a culmination of weeks of fierce competition and showcased the raw talent and dedication of these young athletes.
As part of the celebrations, an exhibition girls’ hockey match was also organized, signifying the organizers’ commitment to promoting gender equality in sports. Major General Lamba expressed his optimism about future endeavors, stating, “This is just a start. We will support youth and provide them a platform to showcase their talent in sports activities.” He urged the youth to actively participate in sports, emphasizing that sports serve as a vital deterrent against the lure of drugs.
Maj Gen Lamba shared insights into the strategic plans to further promote sports in the region. “We have plans for more tournaments in downtown Srinagar, fostering hockey’s growth among both boys and girls,” he revealed.
