Nasir Khuehami meets Iranian Envoy, raises concerns over safety of Kashmiri, Indian students

SRINAGAR (KIMS) — National convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), Nasir Khuehami on Monday visited the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi and met Iran’s Ambassador to India Dr Mohammad Fathali to express condolences over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and conveyed his solidarity to the people of Iran during this difficult time.

In a statement, Khuehami said he also raised serious concerns regarding the safety and well-being of Indian students, including a large number from Kashmir, who are currently stranded in different parts of Iran amid the escalating conflict and continuing airstrikes.

He said many students are extremely anxious and frightened due to reports of explosions and the rapidly evolving security situation in several regions of Iran, adding that their families back home are also worried.

Khuehami said the Iranian ambassador assured that the safety and security of Indian students remains a priority for the Iranian government.

The envoy informed that efforts are underway to relocate Indian students from vulnerable areas to safer locations including Qom.

Khuehami said the ambassador also assured that the matter would be taken up with Iran’s foreign minister to explore possible evacuation or safe relocation options through available routes, including Armenia, Azerbaijan and other border crossings depending on the evolving situation while ensuring the safety of Indian students. — (KIMS)
