Multi-tiered security in place for Home Minister’s 2-day Kashmir visit
Srinagar, Apr 6: Ahead of the two-day visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Kashmir from Monday evening, an unprecedented security grid has been set up all over Srinagar and other sensitive points in Kashmir.
Senior Police officials here said that a multi-tiered security framework has been established, with further deployment of the Police, Army, and Paramilitary personnel.
The entire security system has been bolstered to make fool-proof arrangements during the visit of the VVIP.
According to the officials, Shah will arrive in Srinagar at the Technical Airport on Monday at around 6 pm and will first meet the family of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Humayun Muzamil Bhat at Airport Road.
They said that after meeting the family, the Union Home Minister is scheduled to travel to Raj Bhawan by road. The road from the airport to Raj Bhawan via Rajbagh-TRC has been fully sanitised and is under round-the-clock surveillance.
“Security has been beefed up throughout Kashmir, particularly in Srinagar, to ensure the visit ends without any incident,” a senior Police officer said. “Additional checkpoints have been set up, drone monitoring has been put in place, and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have been deployed at strategic points.”
Officials said several routes leading to strategic installations are under watch. Drone surveillance is monitoring critical and high-traffic zones, and special Police and paramilitary units are performing area domination exercises.
“Intensified frisking operations have been initiated at all entry and exit points in Srinagar city,” they said. “We are employing a mix of human and technical intelligence, including electronic surveillance, to keep an eye on any suspicious movement. Night patrolling has also been increased.”
On Saturday, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, presided over a thorough joint security review at the Police Control Room (PCR) here.
The high-ranking officials from the Army, BSF, CRPF, ITBP, and intelligence agencies were present in the meeting.
“We went through each and everything of the security grid and planned coordinated steps for foiling any possible threat,” IGP Birdi said after the meeting. “Each force has been instructed to remain on high alert, strengthen security around sensitive places, and organise effective 24×7 patrolling. CI Quick Reaction Teams have been positioned at strategic locations to effectively counter any threat likely to emerge. We are giving equal attention to urban areas and rural belts.”
Senior CRPF officials have asserted that personnel have been sensitised and briefed on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), with zero tolerance for any security lapse.
Surprise checks, high-visibility patrols, and technical surveillance will continue to be in place during the Home Minister’s visit.
“Our joint objective is to provide a safe atmosphere for the dignitary’s interactions and to ensure peace and order throughout Kashmir,” IGP Birdi said.
