Modi Inaugurates Indian Funded Hospital In Bhutan

THIMPHU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside his Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay, inaugurated the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital, emphasizing its significance as “a beacon of hope for several families.”

This state-of-the-art hospital, constructed with the assistance of the Indian government, symbolizes a commitment to nurturing a healthy future generation.

“Inaugurated the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital, which stands as a beacon of hope for several families, offering quality healthcare. This facility embodies a commitment to nurturing a healthy future generation,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

The hospital’s development, supported by India in two phases, reflects a robust partnership between the two nations in healthcare.

The first phase, operational since 2019 at a cost of Rs 22 crore, was followed by the completion of the second phase, costing Rs 119 crore, as part of the 12th Five Year Plan.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that this newly constructed hospital, reported by IANS, would enhance the quality of mother and child health services in Bhutan, serving as a shining example of bilateral collaboration in healthcare.

The facility boasts state-of-the-art amenities for pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics, anesthesiology, operation theatre, neo-natal intensive care, and pediatric intensive care, as per the MEA.

Prime Minister Modi, recently honored with Bhutan’s highest civilian award, pledged a support of Rs 10,000 crore for Bhutan over the next five years, underscoring the enduring ties between the two nations.

This visit underscores India’s Neighbourhood First policy, reinforcing the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries.
