MMU Condemns Imran Raza Ansari’s Sectarian Remarks, Demands Legal Action and Total Boycott
📍Srinagar | July 13, 2025:
The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU) — an apex religious body representing Sunni and Shia Muslim scholars and organisations across Jammu and Kashmir — has issued a powerful condemnation of Imran Raza Ansari for making what it calls “deliberate and provocative remarks” against the revered Companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The MMU has called for immediate legal action and announced a complete social and religious boycott of Mr. Ansari.
In a detailed statement, the MMU expressed deep anguish over Mr. Ansari’s continued provocations, saying his latest public remarks have crossed all limits of decency and threaten the deeply rooted sectarian harmony in Kashmir. The Majlis, which had earlier refrained from naming him, has now gone public in light of what it described as “open disrespect” to Islamic sanctities.
“This is not a scholarly disagreement, but a calculated move to provoke sectarian strife in Kashmir. Such behavior will not be tolerated,” the MMU declared.
The outrage isn’t confined to the Sunni community. Several prominent Shia scholars — including Aga Syed Hassan Al Moosvi, Molvi Masroor Abbas Ansari, and Aga Syed Mohammad Hadi Al Moosvi — have also strongly disassociated themselves from Mr. Ansari’s remarks. They asserted that his views do not reflect the values of the Ahl al-Bayt or mainstream Shia traditions.
Given the potential for communal unrest, the MMU has urged government authorities to register a case against Mr. Ansari under relevant sections of the law for inciting hatred and disturbing religious sentiments.
In a historic decision, all member organisations of the MMU — including influential seminaries, religious trusts, and both Sunni and Shia clerical bodies — have decided to impose a complete boycott of Mr. Imran Raza Ansari. This includes barring him from speaking at any religious events, platforms, or gatherings linked to MMU affiliates until he publicly apologises and withdraws his statements.
While tensions run high, the MMU has appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid falling into the trap of provocation. “Our strength lies in unity. We must not allow those with hidden agendas — possibly acting at the behest of hostile forces — to divide the Ummah,” the statement concluded.
The MMU’s unified response marks a significant moment in the religious landscape of Kashmir, as over 40 major Islamic institutions have come together to safeguard communal harmony and demand accountability from within.
