Massive Traffic Drive in Budgam: 135 Vehicles Fined, 8 Seized for Violations
Budgam, July 19 : The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Budgam carried out a major traffic checking drive across the district on Saturday. The drive was led by Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Mr. Arif Parvaiz Shah, along with a team of Motor Vehicle Inspectors.

The aim of the drive was to improve road safety and make sure that all drivers follow traffic rules. The checking was done at several locations where special checkpoints (Naka points) were set up. The drive followed directions from the Transport Commissioner.
During the operation, a total of 210 vehicles were checked, and 135 vehicles were fined for different violations. The department expects to collect around ₹1.5 lakh in fines.
Types of Violations Found:
30 challans were issued for vehicles that were not properly maintained or had pollution issues.
20 drivers were fined for driving without valid insurance.
40 two-wheeler riders were not wearing helmets, which is a serious safety risk.
10 drivers were caught not wearing seatbelts.
35 other challans were issued for various other violations.
Additional Action Taken:
8 vehicles were seized on the spot.
13 driving licenses were recommended for suspension.
10 vehicles were blacklisted due to repeated violations or serious issues.
Speaking about the drive, ARTO Mr. Arif Parvaiz Shah said that following traffic rules is important not just to avoid fines but to protect lives. He warned that similar drives will be held regularly and strict action will be taken against those who break the rules.

He also requested the public to support the department by driving safely and following traffic rules at all times. “It is everyone’s duty to make our roads safer,” he said.
