Massive efforts underway to clear fruit—laden trucks on highway

Will ensure all trucks ply smoothly on highway, Mughal road: IG Traffic; Thankful to Home Minister, J&K Admin for timely intervention; urge traffic department to work out alternate plan for smooth flow of traffic: Prez KVFGA

Srinagar, Oct 09 : Acting swiftly to address the issues of apple growers, the J&K administration has undertaken massive efforts to clear all fruit—laden trucks on the Srinagar—Jammu national highway within 24 hours.

“Traffic department has been impressed upon to clear all the stranded fruit laden trucks within next 24 hours,” a top government official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

Inspector General of Traffic J&K Vikramjit Singh told KNO that the traffic department is committed to meeting all the genuine demands of the fruit growers and will ensure that apple trucks are cleared from the valley as expeditiously as possible via both National Highway and Mughal road.

He urged the transport Associations and horticulture associations to cooperate with police and administration, maintain discipline and avoid spreading unverified rumours.

He further said that strictest possible action would be taken against such elements who are indulging in rumour mongering.

Talking to KNO, President Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Association (KVFGA) Bashir Ahmed said that he was thankful to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and J&K administration for taking pains to address the genuine issues of fruit growers that include smooth flow of fruit laden trucks on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. “I am hopeful that all stranded fruit laden trucks on the highway will be cleared and allowed to proceed towards Jammu and other states of the country,” he said.

Bashir urged the traffic department to work out a traffic plan on alternate basis. “There should be one way traffic for both LMVs and HMVs from Srinagar to Jammu on one day and on the second day traffic should be same from Jammu to Srinagar,” he said and thanked the J&K administration for their sincere efforts and timely intervention in clearing the stranded fruit laden trucks from the Srinagar—Jammu highway.

He said earlier there was a miscommunication between him and the KNO as not hundreds but a handful of trucks were stranded on the highway for two to three days that were cleared by the authorities—(KNO)
