LoP Sunil Sharma accuses CM Omar of spreading lies, credits PM Modi for farmers’ relief

“The claim that the J&K government has no powers is baseless. The Lieutenant Governor has approved 79 of the 86 cabinet decisions—so where is the lack of authority?” Sharma questioned

Srinagar, Oct 08: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former minister Sunil Sharma on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of “spreading lies” and misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir over governance and statehood.

Addressing a press conference, Sharma said the Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been taking concrete and continuous steps for the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, while the former chief minister has done nothing except “playing politics of deceit.”

PM Modi has ordered the release of crores for farmers of Jammu and Kashmir, showing the Centre’s commitment to the farming community,” Sharma said, adding that Union Ministers Dr. Jitendra Singh and Shivraj Singh Chouhan played a key role in ensuring the relief reaches J&K farmers on priority

He said even MNREGA funds and immediate assistance were sanctioned promptly by the Centre to provide relief to affected people, but the J&K administration under Omar Abdullah had “failed to take any parallel step when he was in power.”

“The National Conference government under Omar Abdullah never provided relief or took timely action. Even now, he is busy misleading people instead of appreciating the work done by the Modi government,” Sharma said.

The BJP leader pointed out that in just one year, the Central Government had taken numerous initiatives for Jammu and Kashmir, including ₹5000 crore sanctioned by the Union Finance Ministry and ₹1000 crore earmarked for roads and infrastructure projects.

He accused Omar of running a false narrative that the present administration lacks power.

“The claim that the J&K government has no powers is baseless. The Lieutenant Governor has approved 79 of the 86 cabinet decisions—so where is the lack of authority?” Sharma questioned.

Calling Omar Abdullah’s repeated demand for statehood a “political hoax,” Sharma said, “From 2008 to 2016, Omar had full statehood and absolute power. What did he do then? He failed to protect civilians, failed to curb corruption, and failed to kill terrorists. Now he hides behind the statehood slogan.”

Sharma also alleged that the previous NC government violated business rules and ignored institutional procedures. “Even SKIMS and other major institutions were mishandled. Files were stuck, and the Advocate General’s office was ignored. That’s the legacy Omar Abdullah left behind,” he said.
