Lahore Book Fair Turns into a Food Fest with 1,200 Shawarmas and 800 Biryanis Sold

A recent book fair in Lahore, originally aimed at promoting literature and culture, unexpectedly became a food extravaganza, with a staggering 1,200 shawarmas and 800 biryanis sold, while only 35 books were purchased.

The event, which was intended to encourage reading habits and showcase a wide range of books, ended up attracting more attention for its food stalls than its literary offerings.

The fair’s transformation from a book-centric event to a culinary affair highlights the community’s overwhelming enthusiasm for food over literature. Despite the event’s purpose, attendees appeared more drawn to the array of delicious snacks and meals available at the venue, turning the fair into an impromptu food festival.

The shift in focus underscores a broader trend where public events, even those centered on culture and education, can quickly become opportunities for socializing over food. Organizers expressed mixed feelings about the outcome, acknowledging the need to better balance cultural promotion with entertainment at future events.

The Lahore book fair may not have achieved its primary goal of boosting book sales, but it certainly delivered a feast that left attendees satisfied in a different way.
