Ladakh Violence: Sonam Wangchuk Warns His Arrest Under PSA Could Deepen Crisis
News Report:
Leh, Sept 25: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Thursday warned that his imprisonment could create bigger problems for the government than his freedom, after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) accused him of instigating the recent mob violence in Ladakh.
Reacting strongly to the allegations, Wangchuk described the move as a “scapegoat tactic” and said blaming him—or even the Congress party—for the unrest would not address the real issues behind the protests.
“To say the violence was instigated by me, or sometimes by Congress, is to find a scapegoat rather than addressing the core of the problem. This will lead us nowhere,” Wangchuk said.
He further cautioned that such measures could backfire, noting: “They may be clever in making somebody else a scapegoat, but they are not wise. At this time, we all need wisdom rather than cleverness, because youths are already frustrated.”
Wangchuk also said he is prepared to face arrest under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) but maintained that silencing voices will not solve the deep-rooted concerns of Ladakhi people.
