Kashmir’s first coronavirus case tests negative at SKIMS

Srinagar: The Srinagar woman, who became first coronavirus case in Kashmir on March 18 tested negative on Sunday at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar.

The 67-year-old woman, who had returned from Saudi Arabia, is undergoing treatment at the institute.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan said in the past three days her samples were twice taken to the Viral Diagnostic and Research Lab, which tested negative.

“She is okay and the anti-viral drugs recommended by the World Health Organisation helped her recover. She was given the medicines and has recovered in the isolation ward,” he said.

As per the doctors, she would be put in 14 days of quarantine and it would be decided after that period whether she would be discharged from the hospital or not.

After the first COVID-19 positive case was detected in Kashmir, it had prompted authorities to impose restrictions on traffic and public assembly, and some other measures in the Valley were taken to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
