Kashmir Trade Bodies Raise Alarm Over Tourism Hurdles in CCIK Meet
Srinagar, April 1: The leaders from hoteliers, travel trade, houseboat owners, shikara operators, transporters, general trade associations, and district presidents convened at Hattrick Rajbagh at 3:00 PM. Chaired by Tariq Ghani, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir (CCIK), the meeting drew huge participation from key heads of tourism, hospitality, transport, and allied sectors across the Valley.
Trade representatives voiced deep concerns over pressing issues crippling Jammu & Kashmir’s business and tourism ecosystem. Topping the agenda was the recent steep hike in entry fees at prime spots like Tulip Garden, Gulmarg Gondola, and other parks implemented without prior notice or stakeholder input. Participants unanimously warned that these sudden surges could slash tourist footfall and spoil visitor experiences at the peak season.

Equally alarming was the daily shutdown of Srinagar International Airport until 5:00 PM, flagged as a major barrier to inbound tourism. Members stressed this would cripple arrivals, hitting livelihoods of thousands reliant on the sector hard.
Demanding better coordination and openness from authorities, the house resolved to urgently take up all grievances with government bodies for swift redressal. Association leaders assured full backing to CCIK’s efforts.
CCIK President Tariq Ghani reiterated the chamber’s resolve to shield business interests and drive sustainable tourism growth in J&K.
