Karnah mourns death of 11 persons by avalanche on this day in 2018

Union Minester Natin Gadkari’s announcement of Sadhna tunnel has brought a new lease of life among Karnah residents.

Karnah,Jan 5: People of border town Karnah today observed January 5 as mourning day to mourn the deaths at Sadhna top on this day in 2018 when avalanche killed 11 persons in the incident.
Karnah area mourns their loss when 11 people including a toddler were killed when two Tata Sumo vehicles with 12 people on board were hit by an avalanche at ‘Khoni Nallah’ Sadhna top in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
5th January’s was not the first such tragedy to occur, as snow avalanches have been consuming lives in past too in winters.
Number of accidents on this pass are in hundreds with every year bodies reaching homes in Karnah due to snow avalanches and road accidents.
From past 30 years the people of this border area of district Kupwara demand for construction of a tunnel at sadhna top after the 5th january 2018 incident the voices for construction of the tunnel became shriller.
A movement in Karnah was started in the name of ‘Karnah tunnel coordination committee’ which is on the forefront of the demand led by former Army officer Wali Ahmad Qurashi they had not left any stone unturned in pursuit to tunnel goal their ear drums got tingling of elixir following the reports reaching them via from Doda district of Jammu province where the Union Minester of road transport and highways Natin Gadkari made announcement of 1300 Cr for construction of much awaited and needed sadhna top tunnel the announcement by Union transport Minister on 25 November last year in Doda surprised all in Karnah Gadkari’s announcement has brought a new lease of life among Karnah residents.
