‘Jungle raj’ in kashmir, says Mehbooba Mufti on highway ban, assault on magistrate

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said that ‘jungle raj’ is prevailing in Kashmir.

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of an election meeting in southern district of Anantnag, Mehbooba said: “No law exists in Kashmir. The thrashing of SDM along with his employees, highway has been closed, inmates are beaten in the jails, bodies recovered during the encounters are being mutilated and are burnt by chemicals.”

Mehbooba said it doesn’t seem that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have acceded to the country which Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and Maharaja Hari Singh had chosen. “The country we had acceded to was equal for all Sikhs, Muslims and Hindus,” Mehbooba said.

She said that ordering ban on the civilian movement on the highway was nothing short of dictatorship. She also condemned the thrashing of a magistrate allegedly by the army on the Anantnag highway.

She said that she had clearly told Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh that if Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tinkers with the special status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir then PDP will have no option but to leave the government.
