JKNC Challenges Waqf Amendment Act in Supreme Court
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), under the leadership of Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, has taken a stand in the interest of India’s minority communities. Acting on Dr. Abdullah’s directions, the party has officially challenged the Waqf Amendment Act by filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court of India.
The petition was submitted today by JKNC legislators, including prominent MLAs @arjunsinghraju, @AdvReyazkhan, and Hilal Lone. The leaders emphasized that the amendment infringes on the rights of minorities and poses challenges to the autonomy and functionality of Waqf boards across the country.
“Our move is guided by a commitment to safeguard the constitutional rights of minorities and to ensure that justice prevails,” the petitioners stated. They further added that the act, in its current form, undermines the purpose of Waqf properties and affects the welfare of the communities it is meant to serve.
